A Call to Action
 The National Breast Cancer Deadline 2020®: An end to breast cancer by January 1, 2020. Breast Cancer Deadline 2020® is an urgent call to action. Too many women and men die each year from this disease. It’s time to put an end to breast cancer. We have the knowledge and the resources to achieve our goal. But the systems under which we are currently working must change. There are incredible resources we do not tap into right now. This is a collaborative effort to get all the stakeholders to harness those resources to move toward a preventative vaccine for breast cancer and a way to prevent metastatic disease. This is an effort to address the barriers within the system that might hinder our success and we need to minimize or work around those barriers.
NBCC set a deadline to reintroduce a sense of urgency; in order to focus attention; to focus resources; and to bring stakeholders together across disciplinary lines. It’s a multi pronged effort that will need all the stakeholders involved. NBCC will publish regular status reports communicating our progress in finding a preventative vaccine and a way to prevent metastasis. Do you want to be a part of this incredible movement?
About 25 Young Survivors joined other Breast Cancer Advocates from around the country at the National Breast Cancer Coalition’s Advocate Summit where we learned about how we will end breast cancer. We will do it with a multipronged strategy and it will have to involve the majority of people working to end breast cancer. One of the prongs involved getting our government involved.
We currently have a bill in Congress: HR 3067: Accelerating the End of Breast Cancer Act and a companion bill was just introduced in the Senate. On May 8th, 25 YSC’ers joined 575 others to lobbied congress with the goal to increase house sponsorship from 149 to 218 and now, less than two weeks later, we have 191. This bill asks congress to create an oversight committee that would look at what technologies and information we should be leveraging outside of breast cancer research to find the solution to the end.
Three New Jersey YSC’ers joined others from our state to increase support or our legislators. The following New Jersey Legislators are not yet on the bill. If you are their constituents, please call them and ask that they co-sponsor HR 3067 Accelerating the End of Breast Cancer Act in order to show their support for ending breast cancer by January 1, 2020.
